~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We offer workshop leader training for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) under a license from Stanford University. If you are interested in becoming a CDSMP workshop leader, please contact us. The training is provided at NO COST. In exchange it is our expectation that you will deliver 2 - 3 workshop sessions over the next year.
Workshop leaders are trained volunteers.  Leader backgrounds vary: for example, persons with chronic conditions, healthcare professionals, retired persons from many walks of life, and anyone with a desire to share valuable information on how to self-manage a chronic condition.
All workshops are designed to be conducted by 2 people.  The 2 1/2 hour workshops are delivered over a 6-week period.  Participation is limited to 12 - 16 persons in each workshop series.  Leaders are provided with all materials (including snacks) as well as assistance with scheduling, locations and promotion.  At the end of each workshop series leaders are provided a $100 stipend to help offset the cost of transportation.
Each workshop leader is teamed with another certified program leader to deliver the structured six-class series to classes of 10-18 participants with chronic conditions that range from arthritis and osteoporosis to diabetes and heart disease. The instruction provides:
  • techniques to deal with frustration, fatigue, pain and depression
  • exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance
  • medication management
  • nutrition information and
  • approaches for improving communication with family, friends, and health care professionals.
Workshop leader training is conducted over a 4 day period. Generally, the hours of the training are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on each of the four days.  You must attend all of the training session to be certified as a workshop leader.  Lunch, beverages and snacks are provided.  Each workshop leader receives a detailed leader's manual, and a copy of the workshop's textbook and audio CDs (if applicable).  The training session is structured to provide ample opportunity to practice delivery of workshop information. All materials are supplied and we assist with locations, scheduling and promotion.
At the conclusion of the leader training you will be well prepared and confident in your abilities to deliver the program.
Workshop leader training is conducted by our Stanford certified Master Trainers.
