~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We offer workshop leader training for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) under a license from Stanford University. If you are interested in becoming a CDSMP workshop leader, please contact us. The training is provided at NO COST. In exchange it is our expectation that you will deliver 2 workshop series over the next year.
Workshop leaders are trained volunteers.  Leader backgrounds vary: for example, persons with chronic conditions, healthcare professionals, retired persons from many walks of life, and anyone with a desire to share valuable information on how to self-manage a chronic condition.
Each workshop leader is teamed with another certified program leader to deliver the structured six-class series to classes of 8-15 participants with chronic conditions.
The instruction provides:
  • techniques to deal with frustration, fatigue, pain and depression
  • exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance
  • medication management
  • nutrition information and
  • approaches for improving communication with family, friends, and health care professionals.
Workshop leader training is conducted over a 4 day period. Generally, the hours of the training are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on each of the four days.  You must attend all of the training session to be certified as a workshop leader. Healthy snacks and beverages are provided.  Each workshop trainee receives a detailed leader's manual, and a copy of the workshop's textbook.  Each training session is structured to provide ample opportunity to practice delivery of workshop information.
At the conclusion of the leader training you will be well prepared and confident in your abilities to deliver the program.
Workshop leader training is conducted by two Stanford certified Master Trainers.
